Do I have to have any kind of pixeling skills to join the club?
While we are a pixel club, we do not require anyone to be a pro at pixeling! We have no rule that says you must be great at pixeling to join. We accept members of all graphical skill levels and do not base acceptance on pixeling at all. |
Why bother with an application process and just let everyone in?
By being selective, we hope to keep the club more intimate and something extra unique to be a part of in the web world. We feel that our exclusive status helps harbor a close-knit community, which is something not a lot of social networks can boast these days. |
I want to join! What is required and where do I start?
First, get familiar with our club rules and then head over to the join section » |
What is a Starter Quilt and what should it look like?
Your Starter Quilt (described in the join process) is the beginnings of a quilt you should have set up somewhere while applying to be a member of the club. Just follow the guidelines there and you should be set! Please refrain from adding any other text or layout design to your quilt while you are waiting to hear back about your app. A finished starter quilt will look like this: |
I just sent in my application to join! What happens now?
Once a potential new*bee submits an application, it gets popped into a queue for the Honey Bee committee to review. Honey Bees are special staff who check out all the app info and then vote on whether or not they believe the applicant would make a buzz*worthy bee. The Honey Bees are not picky or judging, they are normally just there to catch mistakes in the application (like a patch with no stitching or a broken website link). When all the votes are in (it can take anywhere from 2-7 days) the Queen will review the voting and address any questions or issues regarding the applicant. For example, if the applicant didn't submit a valid website or patch, the Queen will email them to request replacements. Once everything is ready, the Queen will send the decision to the waiting applicant. If the new*bee is accepted, they will receive a welcome letter with their newly assigned bee number and information about what to do next! If the Honey Bees decide not to accept the application, the Queen will send an email for that as well, which should also contain information as to why it was not accepted. If you apply but are sent this letter, you can always reapply again when you meet the criteria. Feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions about this! |
How are bee numbers chosen for new*bees?
Bee numbers are randomly chosen by our member management system as soon as the Queen accepts the new*bee's application! Bee numbers are never chosen in advance, which adds a bit of unique mystery to the process. ;D |
I was previously a member. Can I have my old bee number back?
Unfortunately, no. :( Our system randomly selects a bee number when an application is accepted and it wouldn't be very fair to other bees if we let everyone choose their own numbers. (Even though we LOVE it when old members return!!) |
Why do you not accept quilts located on profiles like myspace, facebook, or forums?
We've found that quilts cannot be managed properly (while being able to follow the club rules) on sites like these. You need to be able to upload your patches and display them in a "quilt" formation and other bees must be able to easily contact you without having to jump through a lot of hoops. Most of these kinds of sites are also only viewable to those who login and it isn't fair to make someone create an account just to view your quilt. Allowed: Personal domains, subdomains, Tumblr, Blogger, Blogspot, Wordpress.com, LiveJournal, and other free hosting or blog/journal sites that don't cover pages with lots of advertising and popups. Not Allowed: Commercial sites, communities/forums, groups, profiles on myspace/facebook/neopets/deviantart, etc. |
Why was my application rejected?
Applications are generally rejected for the following common reasons: 1. Failure to read the rules - we can tell, so you might as well :) 2. Not enough personal info included with the app (we want to get to know you better from the get-go, so please include some lovely details about you when you apply. :D This isn't to judge you as a person, it is to make sure you are interested in being an active and friendly bee in our community. 3. Not following the join process correctly. This can include an unacceptable patch or quilt, lack of a quilt, or just obviously not taking the application seriously. Make sure you apply with a patch that you pixeled yourself and a proper starter quilt site! Of course, sometimes bees think they're rejected when they're not. Bees are processed a few at a time each week, just because people have been added since you applied doesn't mean you weren't accepted! If you're concerned you are always welcome to contact us » Remember that we don't judge pixeling skills, that will never be a reason for rejection! |

What does it mean to be "inactive" and what would happen?
To be "inactive" means you just haven't visited the club website in over one month. When that happens, the system will display a notice to the Queen and she will then try to get in contact with that bee. This is how the inactivity system generally works: 1. One month has passed since the bee has visited the website. The first notice is sent. 2. Two months and no reply to the first notice email, the bee has not gone on hiatus, or has not visited the website. The second notice is sent. 3. Three months, again, since any activity or replies. The third notice is sent. 4. Four months and still nothing yet. If the bee does not reply to any of the notices, does not go on hiatus, or does not visit the site before the last month is up, the account is then retired. The notices are very friendly and mostly consist of us asking how the bee is doing and mentioning that we miss them! The first notice will also contain a list of recently active BBS posts that might interest the bee in returning to the site. The option of going on hiatus is always mentioned as well, because often a bee does not mean to forget the club but gets caught up in offline life. Very understandable. FYI - It's been said that the Queen Bee is rather nice and forgiving... ;) ... and will usually send at least two more notices after the last one. So really it is about 6 months before an account is ever actually removed from the club (unless it is requested). We believe this is plenty of time for a bee to return to activity and the decision to retire them after such a long absence is fair. |
What does it mean to be "on hiatus" and what would happen?
Being on hiatus means you are taking a break from being active in the club. You can take a hiatus for up to 2 months at a time and will receive notifications when your return date nears (or if you are late returning.) See the full description of what a hiatus entails here » Notifications for this are similar to those for inactivity: 1. Return date has passed - A reminder is sent letting the bee know that they are expected to return from hiatus soon. 2. One month passes since the return date and the bee has not reactivated their account, replied to the notifications, or asked for an extension. A second notice is sent. 3. Two months pass since the original return date and no reply has been sent to the first or final notices. A third notice is sent. 4. Three months pass since the original return date and no replies to the previous reminders. The account is then retired. There notices always contain the option of extending the hiatus for longer in case the bee has gotten caught up in offline life, which happens and is totally understandable! We just like to take care of our members and make sure that all is well. We are flexible and can always make exceptions if the situation calls for it. Like with the inactivity notices, the Queen Bee is also quite forgiving with these too and will usually send at least one or two more "final" notices after the last one. So really it is about 6 months before an account is removed from the club after a hiatus (unless it is requested). |
What are the Honeycomb Apartments and how can I get a spot?
The Honeycomb Apartments (the little red house to the left of the current layout) are only for members that have been in the bee for a year or more. Currently this feature is disabled for the time being, but it will return soon!! :D
I can't login to the site or reset my password, it says my account is invalid. What happened?
If your login information no longer works and resetting your password doesn't work, then your account may have been retired. Usually this only happens if we can't get in touch with a bee for over 4-6 months after sending several attempts via email. We don't keep accounts around indefinitely, because we want to make sure the members we have are active ones. It's what helps us maintain an exclusive community and to be able to offer fun activities and unique events. :) If you think your account has been removed in error please contact us immediately » |
What happens to my account if I retire from the club?
If your account is retired, it will be permanently deleted from the club. No account information will be saved or can be retrieved once it has been deleted, meaning all points, awards, shrooms, referrals, etc, will be lost. Any free*bees you've submitted or BBS posts you've made will be also unlinked and cannot be re-linked. If you rejoin at a later date it will be as a brand new member starting from scratch. |
What are the awards and achievements?
There are several awards that bees who meet the requirements can be nominated for! Awards are currently announced every few months. Achievements are a rather new feature that has yet to be fully developed. There are just a few to be earned right now (you'll have to find out how!) but in the future more will be added. :) NOTE! Currently our awards system is currently on hold » |
Why isn't my name listed in the award nomination select box?
Because you are not allowed to vote for yourself! ;) Don't worry, your name will show up for everyone else. If others aren't seeing your name, it might be because you are on hiatus. Bees on hiatus are ineligible to be nominated for awards. |
How do I retire from the club (or delete my account)?
If you truly want to retire your account from the club, you may do so whenever you wish. However, please consider going on hiatus before retiring, so you can take a break from the club but still keep all your account info! Also we would miss you if you left. :C |

| Patches & Free*bees |
|---|
What is "stitching"?
Stitching is what makes a pixeled patch different from any ol' regular image. The lines surrounding the patch cannot be solid, but must be broken up to simulate "stitches" like a real fabric patch on a real quilt blanket would. :) See the "do I have to own fancy programs" question below to find free graphics program suggestions for making transparent images. |
Do I have to own some kind of fancy graphics program to make patches?
Not at all! We suggest using a free program like GIMP or Paint.NET (not MS Paint) to create your patch so you can properly make a transparent background with your stitching. If you're unsure about how to do this, check out these tutorials: |
What kind of trading patch can I make? Can you make one for me?
Your patch should be something that you create all on your own, it's much more special that way. :) You are allowed only ONE patch for trading, but can redesign it anytime you like! Trading patches must be 40x40, in GIF or PNG format, and cannot be animated. Patches must also always have stitching. |
Can I donate images (patches, cute pixel things, etc) to the club?
Definitely! :D We love to be able to offer lots of free goodies for our members to decorate their quilts with, so if you're interested in donating some, please do! You also earn points for submitting free*bees... and maybe some other special things too. ;D |
What are the different bee-issued patches?
See the patch info page for details. |
Who makes the birthday patches given out to bees?
The entire Pixel Team collaborates to create the number of patches needed each month based on how many bee*days we have. Then our lovely Karin #104 posts them up in the Happy BEE-Day forum! Occasionally patches are donated by other club members as well. If you've added your birthday to your profile then you will receive one of these awesome patches along with 10 points as our birthday gift to you! So make sure you have it set. :) |
Who makes all the official patches, thanks patches, shrooms, etc?
Our fabulous Pixel Team does! :D This includes everything for awards, achievements, activity bases and patches, and any miscellaneous pixel whims needed by staff. ;) |
Can I direct link patches & images from other member's websites?
No, please do not direct link! This could strain the bandwidth of the member, who might be on a limited amount dictated by their host. Also its impolite and generally bad practice. So make sure to save patches and images to your own server for usage on your quilt. :) |

| Trading Etiquette |
|---|
Can I send out mass emails to trade member patches?
Trades should be sent one request at a time and not as an impersonal forward to multiple bees. The point of trading is not only to collect patches for your quilt, but to get to know your fellow members! It is the friendly thing to do. :3 |
How do I request to trade patches with someone?
Currently you can send them a bee*mail, visit their quilt site and use their trade request form (keep in mind that not every quilt will have a form), or email them directly. Make sure you send along your name, email, bee number, quilt URL, and patch URL so they don't have to hunt for your information. Also do not add their patch to your quilt until they have replied and accepted the trade. |
What should I include in my trade request?
At least your name, bee number, email address, quilt URL, and patch URL. Many bees also like to add a little bio about themselves with their request so they can get to know other members! Here is an example mini-bio: "I am 27 years old, living in the USA with my husband and four cats. I love to play video games, read lots and lots of books, and watch TV shows in the fantasy genre! I also enjoy knitting, crocheting, and web design. It's lovely to meet you!" Obviously you'll want to tailor your own mini-bio to include with your trades! You don't have to follow that example exactly, just make it your own. :) Add anything you'd like to offer about yourself or you can even ask questions to the bee you're requesting the trade from. This club is a great way to get to know people from all over the world and requesting trades is the gateway to it all! ;D |
I've sent a trade request! Can I add their patch to my quilt now?
No, the trade is not complete until the bee you've sent the request to has replied to you and "given" you their patch in return. It's easy enough to just save their patch right away, but waiting for a reply is the polite and friendly thing to do. It also helps to keep your quilt cozy, as you'll always know it is full of pretty patches from completed trades! |
Someone sent me a trade request! What do I do now?
First make sure that they are an active member of the club. Trading with anyone who is not a member is not a real trade! A proper trade request contains the following info: name, email, valid bee number, quilt URL, and patch URL (or it may be attached in an email.) Sometimes they will also send a long a little bio of themselves, which is just as lovely. :) If you are accepting the trade, go ahead and add them to your quilt! Make sure you link save their patch to your own server, then link it to the quilt URL they sent. After you are finished adding them, reply to their request with your own trade information. Feel free to include a few "about me" lines about yourself, if you like. This completes the trade! :D |
I've sent them my patch and they've sent me theirs. Is there anything else I should do?
Nope! As long as you both have exchanged information and patches, the trade is then essentially complete and you can add their patch to your quilt (and vice versa.) However, if you like, sometimes it's nice to offer a thanks patch (after the trade is complete) to the member you just traded with, as an extra little gift. :D Alternatively you could also buy a gift from the Bee*zaar to send to them as well. |
How many trades can I request and how can I keep track of them?
You can trade as often or as little as you like, it is up to you to determine how big and beautiful you want your quilt to be. :) A good way to keep track of your pending trades is to send requests via bee*mail and visit your outbox to see who you've sent them to. You could do the same with your email's sent box! Another more manual way is to keep a little notebook or sticky note with a list of trades and cross them off as you receive replies. |
I never get any trade requests. What do I do?
The best way to get more trades is to build a beautiful quilt and to take the time to visit other member's sites and ask them yourself! Don't be shy. :) Also, put as much effort into your patch as possible, this way people will be more likely to want to collect your patch to sew onto their quilts. |
I sent a trade request but never got a reply. What do I do?
Wait a week or so and then send the bee a friendly email asking if they are still interested in trading. If they still don't reply, just move on to another member. There are many reasons why a request isn't answered (malfunctioning forms, the bee is busy, the bee's computer is broken/they have limited computer time...etc). Don't take it personally. If you really want to trade with a certain bee and they don't reply then maybe try again the next month. FYI - Members are also allowed to reject trades, since it is their quilt. However if you are ever rejected in an unkind way please let us know and we will attempt to mediate between you. We want to make sure the hive is a friendly place to bee! |
Can I reject trade requests?
You most certainly can, since it is your quilt. However, please be kind in doing so. |

| Managing Your Quilt |
|---|
I was approved, yay! How do I switch my Starter Quilt to an Approved Quilt?
Here is what a finished approved quilt would look like: Feel free to re-design or change it anyway you like to fit your tastes. :D However, make sure you always have a version of this text on your quilt: I'm an official Quilting Bee member! If you are also a member, & would like to trade patches, please e-mail me. Don't forget to include these 3 things: your patch, URL, & member #. If you're not already a member, click the first patch on my quilt for info on how to join. |
How do I manage my quilt?
Quilts can be maintained in a few ways! There's the "manual" method, where you just hand-code everything yourself in an HTML document. If you are not a member yet, but needing to make a starter quilt, you can download this template as a first step. If you ARE a member, you can download the approved template to use as a base to build your quilt from! You can also use a CMS like Wordpress for your quilt (check out this tutorial for integrating it.) Any other CMS would work as well, but would probably need to be hand-coded within a page like the first method unless you can figure out the integration. The most popular method (usually for members who have their own personal websites) is to use myQuiltAdmin, a special PHP/MySQL script created just for the club by Bubs #77. :) It gives you a ready-made quilt right out of the box and is the fastest way to get started if you are comfortable with installing it. There is a support thread for it on the BBS if you need any help. |
How many quilts can I have? Can I separate my quilt into pages?
You can only have one official quilt website. Your quilt essentially contains everything you've collected and achieved while being a member of the club, so you can only show it in one place! However you are most certainly allowed to separate it out into pages to better organize your patches and goodies as you collect them! Browse around the members list and view other bees' quilts to get inspiration. A couple examples of big partitioned quilts: Melissa #188 and Jem #123. |
Where should my quilt be located?
Until v3.0 of the club site is released, your quilt will still need to have a home somewhere on the web. You don't have to have a full personal website, just a single page to display your traded patches will do! Allowed: Personal domains, subdomains, Tumblr, Blogger, Blogspot, Wordpress.com, LiveJournal, and other free hosting or blog/journal sites that don't cover pages with lots of advertising and popups. Not Allowed: Commercial sites, communities/forums, groups, profiles on myspace/facebook/neopets/deviantart, etc. If you're unsure whether your site qualifies as an acceptable quilt location, you can contact us anytime to ask, even if you aren't a member. We will be happy to answer any and all of your questions! |
My quilt is located on my personal website. Where do I link to it on my site?
Your quilt should be easy for us to find! It should be no more than 3 clicks away from your main index page with a clearly marked text link or button. Feel to use any of the free*bees as your link button. If your quilt is one-click away, you can grab a one-click cookie! |
I've moved my quilt to a new location! Do I have to notify you?
As long as your quilt location still meets the requirements, you're good to go. If you have a question about whether it does, please contact us! Also make sure your settings are updated with the new location so other bees can find your quilt. Other than that, you don't need to let us (as in the club staff) know about it. :) You may want to consider letting the bees you've traded with know about your new location! You can do that either by emailing them all directly (myQuiltAdmin has a handy mass email feature) or you can simply open a new thread in the Change of Honeycomb board about it. |
Can I use a trading form on my quilt?
Yes! If a bee doesn't want to use bee*mail or email to send you a trade, having a form on your quilt makes it very easy for them. However, make sure you test the form first (even if it is the integrated form on myQuiltAdmin) to make sure it sends the emails properly. Consider adding a comments section to your form too, so bees can send you more info about themselves instead of just the essential trading info. This makes the trade that much more special! :D |
What do I do with the patches of retired members or that lead to dead links?
Every so often you will want to wash your quilt. The general idea is that you check to make sure your quilt is free of dead links and/or that the bees you have traded with still have your patch still displayed on their quilt. Some bees like to remove the patches of retired bees and store them on a separate page. You do not have to remove patches of retired bees from your quilt. However, many bees do remove them to keep their quilt as up-to-date as possible and only include current members. |

| Activities |
|---|
How do pixeling activities normally work?
Every month we host one activity that lasts all month long. Each activity has a unique theme, sometimes relating to a holiday that takes place during the month. Typical activities involve members submitting one entry each that follows the activity theme. Submissions are open until the end of the activity, when the upload form is usually replaced with a voting form where members can then vote on their favorite entries. Voting lasts for about two weeks and then the winners are announced! Winners are awarded 10 points for each win (they can win more than once in an activity), special patches, and sometimes a unique little shroom that will appear on their profile. |
What kind of entries can I submit?
Entries must be PIXELED unless otherwise stated. Please only submit valid pixel art, unless the activity is a non-pixeling one. This is a pixel club after all! So please do not submit vectors or resized images. Also, while pixeling, watch your "pillow shading". While we don't judge pixeling skill level at all, we at least expect members to keep their entries clean and the edges free of blurry anti-aliasing or "pillow shading": One of the major crimes of shading pixel art is pillow shading, a poor replacement for anti-aliasing. Pillow shading is where a number of progressive shades just run parallel to the edge of a sprite. This approach to shading looks terrible whenever it is used, so it must be avoided at all times. ~ Via Introduction to Pixel Art |
Can I trade my activity entry with other bees?
Of course you may! Trading an entry you submitted to an activity is just like trading patches. Often members will add special "activity pages" to their quilts to display their own entry as well as their bee*friends. This is 100% optional and you don't have to make a page if you don't want to. |
Can I send out mass emails for trading activity entries?
While this is not against the rules, and there are no limits to how many times you can trade per day in an activity, we would strongly discourage this kind of trading. Activities are not a race to see who can collect the biggest amount of members entries in the shortest space of time, nor are there any rewards for collecting all entries, so there is no reason to rush out and email everyone at once. Trading should be a personal thing between two bees, in an attempt to get to know one another and extend the community. |
Can I participate in an activity that has ended?
You may only participate in an activity while it is open. Once the activity closes, please do not create activity entries to trade. Once the activity closes it is closed to everyone that did not join in the event. It is unfair to the bees that did participate in the event. Any acceptions to this rule will be specifically marked on the activity page. |
I just submitted an entry but found a mistake! What do I do?
Once you submit your entry to an activity the upload form disappears. If you find a mistake, you can send an email to activities@theqbee.net with the fixed version attached. But note that this is NOT so you can replace it with a brand new entry that you decided was better. The entry you submit the first time is the final one! |
I found a cute graphic that I want to use as my activity entry, can I do that?
Unless it is made by you, then absolutely not. We would consider that cheating and do not tolerate it! All entries that are submitted to activities must be 100% made by the bee that submits it. The only exception to this is if you are using a pre-made base created specifically for that activity or it says differently in the activity's rules. This means no using uncolored bases (even if you purchased them) made by someone else and no modifying other images. 3 strikes, you're out. Each time you are caught cheating, you will be issued a warning and be allowed to send in a replacement. If this happens more than three times, you will be banned from participating in the current activity. If you attempt to cheat again in another activity, you will be retired from the club. We feel this to be a completely fair outcome, because (as said earlier) we do not tolerate cheating and it is quite insulting to continue to cheat when the staff bees and fellow members put so much hard work into making the activities enjoyable. |

I found an exploit or bug in an activity, what do I do?
Please tell us about it ASAP! We try to cover all he bases when it comes to activity planning, but sometimes things slip by us. It is essential that these bugs are caught as soon as possible to keep the system from being taken advantage of. If you report it to us, we would be incredibly thankful and indebted to you! |
An activity just ended but there is no voting form, why not?
Not every activity will have voting at the end! If there is going to be voting, it will say so at the bottom of the activity page while it is open. Example: "The activity closes on February 29th and voting opens the following day." If there is no voting, it will not mention it. |
Why isn't my name in the voting list for an activity, even though I submitted an entry?
The voting select boxes won't list your name if you participated in an activity and are viewing the voting form yourself. This is to keep bees from voting for their own entries, because that's not fair! So don't worry, your name shows up for everyone else. :) |
Why do some activities in the list not show the number of entries submitted?
Not all the activities will require entries to be uploaded! We sometimes do super unique non-pixeling activities like hunts, points races, photography, blogging, and more! :) |
The club has been open for years but the activities listed only go back to 2010! What gives?
In 2010 we switched to a new activities system and have yet to import all of our old ones. Rest assured everything will be integrated as fast as we can manage it! |

| Bee*Bee*S & Chatroom |
|---|
What are the BBS and chatroom systems and who moderates them?
The BBS (Bulletin Board System) is our integrated community forum. It houses the majority of the buzzing that goes on in the club and is a great way for members to interact and get to know each other. The chatroom is also integrated into the website and is a fun place to chat in real-time with fellow bees! Usually people are on from 9am-5pm EST. It's always a fun time in the chat! ;D Both are moderated by the Queen Bee and Princess Bee staff. |
Who can view and post in the BBS & chatroom and what are the rules?
Only official club members can post, and to keep things private both systems aren't viewable from the outside either. You must be logged in to access. BBS topics must be kept to the appropriate forums to keep things tidy. Computer problems? You're looking for World Wide Spiderweb. Seen a new film recently? Post in The Buzz. If you're unsure of where to post something, stick it in the "Q*Bee Tea Party" board, which is a general catch-all. The Queen will move it to the right place, if needed. No spamming! Don't post tons of topics or multiple replies to a thread in order to beef up your post count or to bother other bees. In the chatroom, don't post a bunch of messages at a time in excess. You're free to use the smilies provided to add emotion to your posts and mesages, but over the top use (like 20 in a row) is not allowed. Single word + one smiley replies on the BBS are generally discouraged because how is that really a contribution to the discussion? ;) Do not use excessive chat speak and abbreviations in your posts. For bees who's native language is not English, this can only add confusion. Due to the nature of the club and the fact that some of us only speak one language, only English is allowed on the BBS and in the chatroom (unless there are particular threads or chat channels open for languages). |
How should I act on the BBS & chatroom when replying to other bees?
In-depth discussion is fair enough and chatting is encouraged, but petty or aggressive debates and name-calling will be deleted, and you may receive a warning. If we feel you repeatedly break this rule you may be banned from the BBS and/or chatroom, which may also affect your membership in the club. Every bee is entitled to their opinion, wordly views and lifestyle choice. Criticism of a bee because they're different to you is not nice and will result in a warning. |
What are BBS & chat warnings?
Although we don't expect to have to use warnings because we're all lovely people here, anybody who receives 3 warnings (in the form of an email or bee*mail) will be banned from the forum or the chatroom (wherever the offenses were committed) until the Queen Bee feels your time has been served and you should be allowed back. |
Do I need to censor myself in my BBS posts or chat messages?
Profanity is not prohibited, but please don't go ape... crazy. ;) Serious, possibly offensive, or R-rated type topics are allowed, we do want to promote freedom of speech here, but please be considerate when posting about them. If you believe a topic might fall under this category, consider adding a notice/warning to the top of your BBS post to let other bees know in case they do not wish to continue reading. If you really want to post or discuss a certain topic but are worried about it, then contact us for advice. |
Where do I set my BBS avatar and signature?
You can set and edit your avatar and signature by editing your settings » Images are allowed in signatures (they're great for showing off your latest activity submission) but consider that some of the bees still might use dial-up. No .bmps or huge uncompressed .pngs please. You can use whatever image you like as an avatar (max of 100x100) but some bees choose to use their patch or recent activity submissions - this is up to you. But please keep avatars appropriate and G-rated. |
I have a suggestion for a new board, where does that go?
Reply to this thread to suggest a new board. |
Can I advertise my site/shop/donation button, etc, on the BBS or in the chatroom?
If you want to showcase a new quilt or patch design, post in the Needle and Thread board. Any new general website layout promotions go in Hive Design. You may NOT solicit for money or donations on the BBS or in the chatroom unless is it in a topic, board, or channel that permits it. This also goes for profile bios and BBS signatures. No soliciting of any kind allowed. |

| Joining & Creating Colonies |
|---|
How do I join a colony and how many can I join?
Go to the colonies page and click the "join colony" link next to any colony that you'd like to be a part of! Currently you can join a maximum of 5 colonies. This is to prevent spam joining and to entice members to make sure they select colonies they will truly enjoy! It might be worthy to note that Colonies are not like Facebook groups. You shouldn't join a colony just because you want to show you're simply interested in something (that's what the interests field is for on the edit profile page), you should join a colony to get to know the other bees who share that interest! The only exception to this limit is if you purchase the Society Key I from the Keymaker shop, which will increase your join limit to 10 colonies. :) |
How do I leave a colony?
If you join a colony and then decide you'd rather not be a member, just go back to the colonies page and click the "leave" link that is now present next to the colony name. Keep in mind that once you a leave a colony, you cannot rejoin it for two weeks. Like the join limit, this is to prevent join spamming! Also it protects the privacy of the colony members. |
Can everyone see colony forums on the BBS?
If a colony forum is public then non-colony-members can see all the topics and posts on the forum, however only colony members will be able to reply or post. If a colony forum is private then only the colony members can view and post. This protects the privacy of any colonies that might have sensitive subjects (like health-related, etc). This setting is determined by the colony's Keeper. |
What is a Colony Keeper and how do I become one?
The Colony Keeper is a bee who has graciously volunteered their time and effort to maintaining their colony. They are either the creators of the colony or they have been granted that position by the Queen Bee. They are responsible for making sure the colony discussion on the forum is flowing smoothly, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and possibly even hosting colony-only activities! You become one by either creating a colony or by taking over the position in a currently active colony. The only way you could take over the position is if the current Keeper wants to retire or goes on hiatus and they will probably mention that on the colony forum should it happen. |
How do I create a colony?
Head to the creation page and make sure you fit the requirements to be a Colony Keeper. Then fill out the form and your application will be sent to the Queens. We will look over all your info and get back with you on whether or not your colony is approved! |

| Points & the Bee*zaar |
|---|
What are bee*points and how can I earn more?
Bee*points (BP) are the club currency! You can use them to purchase items in the Bee*zaar for your profile and bee*mee. How to earn more BP:
Can I donate items to the Bee*zaar?
Yes you can! Please see this thread for more details. |
I just bought an item in the Bee*zaar! Where is it now?
It will be located in your inventory » |
How do I give an item I bought to another bee?
Go to your inventory and click the "give item" button underneath the item in question. Then on the next page, select the member from the list and send it! The receiver will be sent an email letting them know they were just given an item. :D |
I was just given a gift item! Why isn't it in my inventory?
Gifts are different from normal items. If you are given a gift, it will immediately display on your profile in a special section and will never be visible in your inventory. This is because... well it is a gift! You wouldn't want to give away gifts given to you right? :D |
Is there a return policy for items? Can I get a refund?
No refunds, sorry! In the future we are planning to add a preview feature to let you see clothes on your bee*mee and other features before you spend your hard-earned points on them. |

| Profiles & Bee*mees |
|---|
What is a bee*mee?
Every member has their very own bee*mee on their profile! Bee*mees are special avatars that you can dress up with clothes and other goodies purchased with your earned bee*points in the Bee*zaar. |
How do I dress my bee*mee in different clothing?
Everyone starts out with a default set of clothing in their inventories. In order to dress your bee*mee, go to your closet and check the boxes next to the clothing you'd like your bee*mee to wear. |
I just changed the outfit on my bee*mee but she's still wearing the same thing!
Refreshing the closet after you change your bee*mee's outfit doesn't seem to work all the time. Some bees have reported that refreshing the closet just makes the bee*mee appear to have ALL their clothes on, none at all or some funky combo. Workaround "fix" - after you set a new outfit, go to your profile to view your bee*mee after refreshing the closet. Usually the bee*mee will appear wearing the correct stuff there. |
How do I add a bee*pet, background image, or marquee to my profile?
First you need to have the proper keys purchased from the Keymaker for those features. Then go to your inventory and click the "add to profile" button underneath the item you would like to apply. |
What are those little fungi on member profiles?
Fungi are special little pixels that showcase achievements, awards, and staff positions earned while being a member! You can find out more about each little shroomie here » |

| Other Questions |
|---|
How and when did this club start and why was it created?
Check out our about section for all that info! |
Who runs this club and are they paid to do it?
The Q*Bee is run by a whole hive of dedicated staff! We don't get paid to manage this club. The staff here works completely for free and on our own time, so we are literally donating something valuable to our members to make sure that everyone has an amazing, sociable, fun, and unique experience that trumps other online communities! |
Who are the Honey Bees?
The Honey Bees form a panel of several bees that help by voting yes/no on pending member applications. They decide who gets to join the club and who doesn't based on the club rules and their personal judgement. |
Didn't there used to be a Worker Bee staff position?
Worker Bees were staff members that helped check member websites and quilts for any rule-breaking. When we revealed the upcoming 3.0 revamp to the club website, it was announced that the Worker Bee position would be remade into something new in 3.0 and would be retired for the time being. |
Can I volunteer as staff to help out the club?
Any open staff positions will be announced in the A Spoonful of Honey board! |
What is the Daily Bee?
The Daily Bee is our monthly newsletter! Learn more about it here » |
How can I help out the club?
There are lots of ways you can show your support for the club, and you don't have to spend a penny! You can submit free*bees, write up tutorials for pixeling and web stuff, send in snippets to the Daily Bee, submit activity ideas, etc. To help us gain popularity on the web, you can refer your friends! Your unique referral URL is located in the sidebar of your Honeycomb. For each bee you refer, you'll receive 10 bee points, as well as the knowledge that you're helping us expand. You can also help by telling people about the club: link to us from your website, blog about us, vote for us in the Cute Top 25, tweet about us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, add us to your del.icio.us accounts, whatever you can think of to get us out there! Of course, the best way to help is by bee*ing active, sending in submissions to our activities, participating in the BBS, and getting to know fellow members in the chatroom! ;D |
Can I start a club like the Quilting Bee?
We don't support copiers (who does?) but we don't hunt them down, either. Lets just say that we would really appreciate it if you thought of something on your own rather then stealing our idea and reusing it, and I'm sure your page visitors would appreciate your creativity as well. |
