When did you join the Quilting Bee?
August 2009. I can't believe I've been a member for over two years!
What made you want to join the Quilting Bee?
I loved the idea of it - a community based on pixelling and getting to know people by trading little pixels. It's so cute. I had actually wanted to join for years but I wanted to wait until I had a pixelling website, which I didn't get up and running until summer 2009.
How did you get started pixeling?
I really got into 'cartoon' dolls when I first started using the internet and thought 'Why am I just collecting dolls other people have made? I can make my own!' So I followed a lot of tutorials and really enjoyed it. Some of my earlier dolls were shockingly bad but I got better (I hope!). From there I got into actual pixelling.
What inspired you to create your first website?
One of my friends had a website on Matmice (for anyone not familiar with it, it was a page builder for kids) and I thought it was awesome. I was new to the internet at the time and thought websites were for businesses - I didn't know anyone could make one. So I made one myself and although it was awful, I loved it. Then I starting learning HTML, bought a domain and started making my own graphics and my first 'proper' website was born.
What are some of your future goals?
I hope to get a degree in English (I'm studying for it at the moment), though I'm not really sure what I'll do with it. I'm planning to start a (very) small business - so small I think 'business' is too strong a word. :p Just to make a little extra money. I also hope to study for and complete some GCSEs - which are the the exams you take in your last year of school over here, so I can go to college.
School or Work?
I had a terrible time at school so I would have to say work. Not that I've had a lot of experience in that area as I haven't been able to 'properly' work due to illness. But still, work.
Hobbies?
Well obviously I love pixelling, but I like to make a lot of other types of graphics too.I also love reading, writing, drawing, watching TV and listening to music. Anything that requires minimal physical effort. :p Actually, I like walking and dancing, but other than that I'm pretty lazy.
In your own words...
I'm a chocoholic 'cat lady'. I don't take myself - or anything - too seriously. I probably don't take anything seriously enough actually. I'm really, really shy though. I love television - not just watching it, but everything that goes into making shows and putting them on air. My biggest passion is make up, the brighter and more colourful the better! I tend not to buy from big brands though, I prefer 'indie' companies that sell on sites like Etsy. I'm also a big fan of gadgets and technology, and stand-up comedy.
